Short Take

A few lines from a book written by Brian Radford called Taken for a Ride

"On one occasion at Newbury, a former champion jockey weighed out with an extra pound tucked down his leg, but once he passed the scales he threw it aside, not expecting to finish in the first four, to his surprise, the horse trained by Taffy Salaman, ran far better than expected and finished second. when the jockey returned to the scales, the Clerk looked up at him and said, 'I see you've lost nearly two pounds in that race, Mr.....'
'Thats nothing, sir,' the jockey replied, 'I lost a hundred and fifty in the first!'"
